Since moving to Utah six years ago, one of my favorite fall traditions is visiting Rowley’s Big Red Barn in Santaquin. It’s about a 45-minute drive from our house and worth every minute on the road! As soon as we arrive, we hop the wagon ride out to the field to do all the activities first. The kids love the corn mazes, slides, zip-line and apple throw.

After hours playing in the field, we head back to the Red Barn for apple cider donuts, ice cream and apple slushies. We always get one of everything! (Well, more than one donut, because those are too hard to share. Ha!)

Every year after we visit Rowley’s, I always say I’m going to make an Apple Cider Donut Cake based on their donuts. Somehow, however, life gets in the way and other cake flavors take priority.

Easy Apple Cider Donut Cake Recipe

For this cake, I worked off my pumpkin cake recipe from my Pumpkin Pie Cake. In my pumpkin cake layers, I use two cups of pumpkin puree. Since we’re not using pumpkin, we’re replacing that with a cup of applesauce and one cup of apple cider for this cake…plus oil! All these liquids make this cake incredibly moist! I’ve also added some cinnamon and nutmeg for a little extra flavor. This Apple Cider Donut Bundt Cake is simply one of the best fall desserts you’ll ever make!

Once the bundt cake is baked and cooled, you’ll use a pastry brush to coat the cake with butter and then a dusting of cinnamon and sugar. I used coarse sugar, but you can also use regular, granulated sugar. (or powdered sugar for a more “wintery” looking cake!”

When making bundt cakes out of my cake recipes, I recommend using a 12-cup bundt pan. You’ll have plenty of room for the cake to rise without spilling. I recommend THIS bundt pan.

Just when you thought apple cider donuts were the best fall treat we turned them into a bundt cake! In my opinion, this cake is even better than apple cider donuts. None of the greasiness that you sometimes get with donuts, but ALL the flavor. Plus, that delicious crunchy cinnamon sugar topping!

Apple cider cake: This delicious homemade cake is flavored with apple cider, applesauce (or apple butter), cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and vanilla. It bakes up moist ad soft with an incredible fragrance.

The Greatest Powder Sugar Apple Cider Donut Cake

Cinnamon sugar topping: After cooling slightly the warm cake is brushed with melted butter and sprinkled generously with cinnamon sugar. This adds delicious flavor and texture to every bite!

Grease your bundt pan really well. I find that a non-stick spray that contains flour works the best. Wait to spray the pan until right before you add the batter.

Serving: The flavor and texture of this cake is best when served at room temperature. Serve as-is or top each slice with whipped cream and caramel sauce.

*Fluff the flour several times with your measuring cup to lighten it up. Scoop a heaping portion and level it off with the back of a knife.

Easy Apple Cider Cake

Every year, my family and I hit the apple orchard to pick apples, get lost in a maze, take a couple hayrides and, of course, eat way too many warm apple cider donuts. We love roaming around with cups of hot cider in one hand and a spiced treat in the other.

We start by preheating the oven to 325 degrees F then grease your pan. Select your fave bundt pan. Here we used a classic anniversary style pan.

Once the cake has cooled, use a pastry brush then add the butter to the cake and sprinkle with the cinnamon sugar.

This Apple Cider Donut Cake is best served fresh and warm out of the oven! If you’re feeling extra indulgent, try adding a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream on top.

If kept in an airtight container or tightly wrapped, bundt cakes can be kept for 4-5 days at room temperature. This cake should be kept in a cool environment so if you live in a warmer/humid climate I’d recommend storing the cake in the fridge.

To Freeze: Wrap the cake in aluminum foil or plastic wrap then put it in a heavy-duty freezer bag. A frozen pound cake will keep for 4-6 months. When ready to consume, thaw overnight in the fridge or at room temperature for a couple hours.
